Ten Bulgarian municipalities have been approved to develop joint projects with partners in Romania for the development of cycling tourism and cultural tourism along the Danube River. The projects will be financed under the Interreg program, with a maximum value of up to €6 million per project, within a total budget of €56.25 million.

The list of projects that successfully passed the preliminary evaluation and will proceed to the development of detailed proposals was announced at the end of February. It includes ten Bulgarian municipalities: General Toshevo, Tutrakan, Glavinitsa, Belene, Vetovo, Gulyantsi, Balchik, Byala, Oryahovo, and Ruse.

The projects have been developed in accordance with the approved Integrated Territorial Strategy, whose backbone is the European cycling route EuroVelo 6 in Romania and Bulgaria.

In Bulgaria and Romania, the route stretches for more than 600 km. Tourists can choose either the northern or the southern branch, or switch between them by crossing the Danube.
