Bulgaria will present books about the country’s Antarctic explorers and the leader of its Antarctic expeditions, Prof. Hristo Pimpirev, as it opens its stand at the London Book Fair for the third consecutive year, Gergana Dimitrova, deputy chair of the Bulgarian Book Association, told BTA.

The programme begins today at 19:00 local time at the 'Sofia' Gallery at the Bulgarian Cultural Institute at the Bulgarian Embassy in London. The event will feature Antarctica – History, Nature, the Bulgarian Polar Explorers by Hristo Pimpirev and Iglika Trifonova, as well as Trifonova’s book Christo Pimpirev: The Antarctic Hitchhiker.

The discussion will include BTA Director General Kiril Valchev, with participation by kaval virtuoso and composer Theodosii Spassov.

On 10 March at 11:00 at Olympia London, Bulgarian publisher and editor Svetlozar Zhelev and British journalist Rosie Goldsmith, director of the European Literature Network, will discuss Satire in Europe after 1989. This event will also feature a presentation of the works of Pimpirev and Trifonova by Kiril Valchev, with Spassov performing.

Later that day at 18:30, Hatchards bookshop will host another discussion on satire in Europe after 1989, featuring Goldsmith, Susan Curtis (director of the British publishing house Istros Books) and Zhelev.

On 11 March at 19:00, the 'Sofia' Gallery will host a presentation of A Short Anthology of Contemporary Bulgarian Authors in the United Kingdom, compiled and edited by Georgi Nikolov.
