The Consulate General of Bulgaria in Los Angeles has opened the first exhibition on the US West Coast bringing together contemporary art and traditional Bulgarian culture. The display combines contemporary painting, enamel work, icon painting, sculpture and graphic art with traditional Bulgarian costume, creating a single artistic narrative linking the past and present of the country’s culture. The diplomatic mission announced the event on its Facebook page.

The exhibition features works by Bronislav Likomanov, Georgi Nachev, Maria Pehlivanova-Georgieva, Monika Tomova, Silvia Hristova, Aglaya Morcheva, Alice Varbanov and Ventsislav Iskrenov.

A central highlight is a collection of authentic traditional costumes from different ethnographic regions of Bulgaria, showcasing the richness, craftsmanship and regional diversity of the country’s folk heritage.

The exhibition will remain open until the end of the month and forms part of an initiative by Consul General Boyko Hristov titled “March – Month of Bulgarian Culture in Los Angeles”, which aims to promote Bulgarian cultural heritage and contemporary art to American and international audiences.

On 13 March, the Los Angeles City Council is expected to adopt a proclamation officially declaring March Bulgarian Cultural Heritage Month in Los Angeles — a recognition that would be granted for the first time in the city’s history, the Consulate General said.
