The Bulgarian caretaker government is preparing measures to support households and businesses due to the increase in fuel prices. Direct financial assistance is planned for people with lower incomes, which will be transferred to their bank accounts if prices continue to rise. The initial budget of the measure is about 30 million euros, and the funds under it are planned to be monthly.
As for businesses, the government is proposing to postpone a new carbon tax on truck tolls so as not to increase transport costs and food prices.
At the same time, the National Revenue Agency will strengthen control over gas stations to monitor whether the increase in fuel prices is not the result of speculation. According to the government, gasoline and diesel prices in Bulgaria remain the lowest in Europe for now.
