The Vertical Gas Corridor is important for Europe’s energy security amid rising geopolitical tensions, Bulgaria’s President Iliana Iotova said at a discussion on the project’s impact on regional energy security in Yerevan, held alongside the European Political Community summit. The project plays a key role in diversifying gas supplies across south-eastern, eastern and central Europe, Iotova said.

The panel brought together leaders from Greece, Moldova, Ukraine, Serbia and Romania to discuss the initiative, which is seen as a step towards strengthening the region’s supply security.

Iotova added that Bulgartransgaz was among the first proponents of expanding regional gas infrastructure, and the first operator to launch targeted investments in the development of the Vertical Gas Corridor.
