Thousands expected at healing spring gathering near Momchilgrad

Thousands of people are expected to gather overnight on May 5–6 near Momchilgrad for a traditional celebration of the spring Muslim festival Hıdırellez, which coincides with St George’s Day.

The event takes place at the Dambala site outside the town, where people gather around a cold-water spring believed to have healing powers. According to local beliefs, the water gains special properties on that night and is said to help with a range of health conditions.

The municipality said visitors are expected from across Bulgaria and abroad.

To ease congestion, two buffer parking areas have been set up — one near the village of Letovnik and another at the base of a nearby hill. Vehicle access to the spring itself will be restricted.
