Animal rights activists have called for humane treatment of calves.
To attract the attention of politicians, activists from the
"Invisible Animals" organization entered cages near the
National Assembly and the presidency. They demanded legislative
changes. According to the organization, in some of the largest
industrial farms in Bulgaria, the calf is separated from its mother
from the very birth and locked in a cage, where it spends months.
To stop this
practice, "Invisible Animals" organised a petition that
collected over 110,000 signatures and was submitted to the previous
National Assembly, but did not reach legislative changes. Currently,
150,000 signatures have already been collected and livestock
breeders and veterinarians also support the organization's request to
remove the cages.
