The number of tobacco producers in Bulgaria rises by 237 in 2026

The number of registered tobacco producers in Bulgaria has increased by 237 in 2026 compared with the previous year. This became clear at a meeting of the Tobacco Advisory Council held at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food and chaired by Deputy Minister Yanislav Yanchev.

According to the Ministry, 8,331 tobacco producers were registered in 2025, cultivating a total of 41,100 decares. The contracted quantity of tobacco was 6,448,756 kilograms.

In 2026, the number of producers has risen to 8,568, while the cultivated area has increased to 45,295 decares. Contracted quantities have also grown, reaching 7,278,940 kilograms, with tobacco being grown in 18 regions across the country.

Operational data for the 2026 harvest also indicate significant production volumes. Output is expected to reach 2,890 tons, with an average yield of 128 kilograms per decare.

Oriental tobacco accounts for the largest cultivated area at 1,690 hectares, followed by Virginia tobacco at 432 hectares and Burley at 355 hectares.
