For the 15th consecutive year, Kardzhali is hosting its Month of America initiative. This year, however, the events are taking place in October and November rather than February, according to the Friends of the USA Association, which organises the programme with the support of the US Embassy in Bulgaria and Kardzhali Municipality.
In 2026, the Month of America is dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence.
On October 15, an exhibition entitled Benjamin Franklin and the Bulgarian National Revival, prepared by the St. Cyril and St. Methodius National Library, will open in the foyer of the House of Culture.
The traditional English-to-Bulgarian translation competition for students in grades 10 to 12 will run until October 16.
The programme also features a workshop for children from the local photography club, with the participation of Brett Baker from the US Embassy; an evening dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Liza Minnelli’s birth; a quiz entitled 250 Years of the United States; and an eight-minute film introducing audiences to the history of the founding of the United States, among other events.
On October 27, a documentary about Bulgarian schools in Chicago will be screened at the hall of the Obedinenie community cultural centre, Radio Kardzhali reports.
